When I drink beer and other alcohol, I get a red, irritated skin rash. What might be the problem?

When I drink, sometimes I get an irritated red rash around my eyes and face that is very splotchy. It goes away after a little while and when I keep drinking it then doesn't come back that night. What might be wrong with me? Am I just allergic to alcohol and if so is there a way to stop this rash from appearing?
