Will working out during the day and fasting at night work?

Hey there, my friend has been fasting like crazy lately and he has lost a considerable amount of weight. Given that i weight lift a lot and need energy and nutrients, I was wondering if I were to workout heavy in the morning and eat a little more than usual during the day, then from 6pm till bed not eat (fast), will the produce results? I'd be building the muscles and fueling them as needed, then with a cutback of calories overall due to not eating at night, I'd be dieting. Am i missing something here? All answers appreciated
