What's Heim, Van, Von, Gard, Shire, and Grad?

grad means city in Russian so Stalingrad means Stalin's city = Stalingrad. van means "of" or "from" so Vincent van Gogh would be Vincent from/of Gogh. shire means county! Yorkshire (the county of York) i'm fluent in Russian and English, so i can only guess what "gard" means. it might also mean city. as for heim, it means "home" in German. oh, and "van" is Dutch and "von" is German. (same meaning though)
